Examining Your Eyes

Utilising the industry leading eyecare technology, our optometrists also take into consideration factors such as your career and hobbies, to assess your eyes and provide informed advice on which lenses and eyewear products are best suited to you and your lifestyle. Learn more about our equipment below.

As one of only 2% of practices in the UK owning an Optomap, our most advanced piece of equipment, non-invasively captures an instantaneous, ultra-widefield digital image of the retina.

This image is captured safely in less than half a second using low-powered laser wavelengths that scan simultaneously. This image then provides our optometrists with a view of 82% of your retina, compared to 15% with most high street opticians. This enables our optometrists to discover retinal diseases (i.e. diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration) and health disorders (i.e. cardiovascular disease) that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Early detection of any retinal abnormality may lead to earlier and safer treatments, and in many cases prevent vision loss.

Take a look at our dedicated Optomap page for full details.

Visioffice X provides an exceptional 3D optical measuring system that put the patient at the heart of the measuring process, with vocal and visual instruction to allow each patient to really appreciate what it takes to achieve accurate measurements when combined with Essilor’s superior AVA lenses.

By utilising Visioffice X at KA Optometry, we are able to precisely scan you your face in 3D, assessing the full anatomy and positioning of your eye, as well as your posture and the way you wear your frames. By taking into account these factors, along with 11 unique measurements for each eye, Kathryn Anthony Optometry can deliver truly bespoke lenses, all without any physical contact required to take measurements.

Visioffice X – 3D optical measuring

Otherwise known as Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), this is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. In a similar way to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. The OCT machine captures both a retinal photograph and a retinal scan of the back of the eye, allowing us to rapidly diagnose a number of common eye conditions (i.e. macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetes). The scan is non-invasive, painless, simple and quick. With every scan the software can automatically detect even the subtlest changes to the retina, giving you an invaluable record of the health of your eyes.

The Tonoref 3 Tonometer has the capability to measure the thickness of the cornea before recording the pressure of the eye. This valuable additional information then allows us to identify those patients at risk of developing Glaucoma, and make referral for early treatment possible.

Tonometry

This advanced microscope is fitted with a digital camera to capture and video the front and back of the eye, allowing an in-depth assessment to identify the early causes of dry eye disease, and other more serious eye conditions.

The Henson visual field analyser can detect disfunction in the central and peripheral vision, which may be caused by various medical conditions such as Glaucoma and Stroke.

Eyecare for children and short sightedness

Like adults, children also encounter eye issues as they grow. However, mypoia, commonly referred to as near-sightedness or short-sightedness, is fast becoming a global concern, especially amongst school aged children. By 2050 around, it is predicted approximately half the world’s population will be short-sighted. Read our dedicated children’s mypoia guide for further information or  book an eye examination if your child is expressing difficulties in seeing distant objects or experiencing symptoms such as headaches.
