WHY WE LOVE MOSCOT
Paving the way as one of the world’s most iconic glasses brands, Moscot glasses remains a firm favourite with both our customers at Kathryn Anthony Optometry and Hollywood celebrities like.
Many of the Moscot’s frames are based on styles from the Moscot family archives from the 1930s-1980s, celebrating classic good looks and timeless design. Designed and prototyped in New York City by Zack Moscot (5th generation), each and every frame is made using the highest quality materials with 130+ steps required to handcraft a pair of frames, each with that undeniable downtown New York aesthetic.
So which are the 3 best selling Moscot glasses in Bath at Kathryn Anthony Optometry?
1. LEMTOSH
Without a doubt, the most popular glasses from Moscot is the Lemtosh. First introduced in the late 1940s, the Lemtosh continues to stand the test of time with its truly iconic design.
Perhaps the best known celebrity to wear the Lemtosh is Johnny Depp, who in 2004, first wore the Lemtosh whilst filming the psychological thriller ‘Secret Window’. Since then, the Lemtosh has become a permanent staple to Jonny Depp’s eclectic style with him regularly seen wearing the frames in numerous different acetate colours and lens tints.
In addition to Jonny Depp, the Lemtosh has been spotted on numerous celebrities being worn by King Charles III, Paul McCartney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Paul Rudd, Demi Moore, Jeff Goldblum, and Harry Styles to name a few. The popularity of the Lemtosh is unparalleled and remain at the number one spot at Kathryn Anthony Optometry.
2. MILTZEN
As with the Lemtosh (see above), the Miltzen is part of Moscot’s Originals collection that was first introduced in the 1930s. As a round, full-vue design, the Miltzen from has become a firm favourite at Kathryn Antony Optometry and a frame that our Bath customers have also fallen in love with.
As an interesting fact on the Miltzen, the glasses were eponymously named after the Moscot family’s Uncle Heshy, who inexplicably everyone called Uncle Miltzen. The name stuck for a lifetime and since then, the Miltzen frame has fittingly become a true icon in the Moscot glasses range.
Miltzen fans include Sienna Miller and Sam Smith, but another slightly older name name synonymous with the Mitlzen is Andy Warhol. As the story goes, Warhol lived in the Lower East Side of New York, a hot bed for creative types: artists, musicians, poets, architects, writers, and more. Moscot had a shop close by and one day Warhol entered the shop and brought a pair of Miltzen’s. The rest as they say is history.
3. FRANKIE
With subtle clean lines and a full-vue shape, the Frankie frames are the epitome of cool. Named after Frank, aka Frankie, who manned the Moscot New York shop counter for over 40 years, the Frankie has become an incredibly popular and wearable frame. So much so that Vanity Fair listed the Frankie as one of the 13 essential items inspired by the American author and actress, Fran Lebowitz.
